On Monday, September 14, the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago was awarded their 4th Magnet recognition award. Lurie Children's stands alone in being the only freestanding pediatric facility to achieve this recognition. Nurses have been the core of this facility starting in 1882 as a little 8 bed cottage on the corner in a quiet neighborhood to the 2012 opening of a state of the art pediatric hospital in downtown Chicago. Nurses have not only helped in the delivery of care but also in unexpected ways. A generous donation from Ann Lurie, who worked as a RN at the hospital, helped fund the construction of the new facility.
Certification is not only encouraged but so highly valued that it is monetarily supported by the hospital. Many of the nurses belong to national organizations and present at conferences and to the local community. These accomplishments were listed in our Magnet application and made an impact in our achieving the award. My involvement in ISPAN was mentioned to which I could not be more proud.
I have belonged to this wonderful family of nurses for 37 years and applaud each and every one in receiving this Magnet award. Congratulations to all the nurses at Lurie Childrens!
