President-Elect

Can you believe North America's premiere and most comprehensive plastic surgery nursing education program is upon us, already? With the kids going back to school, colorful falling leaves, corn mazes, pumpkins, acorns and scarecrows, along with the cooler days and nights that the fall season brings, I continually ask myself where did the summer go? Nevertheless, the wonder of autumn always brings with it the knowledge that the ISPAN national meeting will soon commence. In fact, this year's conference facilities and lodging will be sure to appease even the most discerning learner being that the convention takes place in Boston, MA– a city rich in history and tradition that certainly offers top-notch cultural, recreational, and dining experiences.

In addition to Boston's outstanding attractions, there will be a variety of educational opportunities available for convention attendees, serving to add value across the board to the practice of our plastic surgery nursing profession. Through the diligence and extraordinary work of the ISPAN national office staff, 2015 SSPC co-chairs Teresa Barroca and Nancy Radoslovich, along with the entire planning committee, much of this year's program has been tailored to meet the educational needs of our members based on the documented feedback we have received from previous conventions.

Not only will the 2015 national meeting provide education, the environment lends plenty of opportunity for professional networking, discussion, and problem-solving dialogue for industry related issues. We strongly encourage our membership to attend the fall meeting in order to share experiences with fellow plastic surgery nursing colleagues that will benefit your patients, your practice, your education, and your research. The Board of Directors strongly believes the convention is a terrific platform in which to learn something new through close interaction between speakers, participants, and industry representatives.

Another facet of the national convention is the Pay it Forward concept, where we as plastic surgery nurses express the altruistic character of our profession by supporting the host city's community. Therefore, in keeping with this tradition, the 2015 planning committee chose "The Creative Cups" project which will support the Julie Fund for Women’s Cancers in Boston. This year's community project inspires individual artistic expression through bra decorating. It is a clever and creative way to celebrate the lives of those living with breast cancer and to honor those lives we have lost to this disease. Should you choose to take part in this community activity project, participants are encouraged to design and build original works of art using bras which will be exhibited and auctioned at the ISPAN convention; remembering that the proceeds will benefit the Julie Fund for Women's Cancers. For more logistics and specific bra decorating information check out the ISPAN website (www.ispan.org).

Finally, the last Board update for this month, but certainly not the least important is we have been looking to "rejuvenate" our ISPAN logo. With that said, the Board of Directors have been diligently working to find just the right image that will readily identify the refreshed, yet timeless face of the mission, vision, and trustworthiness of the ISPAN. While we understand logo rejuvenation takes time, there will be other noteworthy ISPAN revitalized updates announced throughout the national meeting in Boston.

While we all sincerely appreciate the fact that the Boston convention will be filled with days of intense learning, we hope your evenings will be memorable; all filled with the incredible sights and sounds of one of America's oldest cities. We certainly hope if you have not yet made plans to attend the 2015 ISPAN national convention, you soon will do so. The Board of Directors truly look forward to seeing you in Boston!
