Can you believe North America’s premiere and most comprehensive plastic surgery nursing education program is upon us, already? With the kids going back to school, colorful falling leaves, corn mazes, pumpkins, acorns and scarecrows, along with the cooler days and nights that the fall season brings, I continually ask myself where did the summer go?
Join us at the 41st Annual Convention of the International Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses at The Boston Renaissance Hotel, October 16-19, 2015. Registration is now open! Housing is also available on the ISPAN website. Group Rate is $299.00 a night plus applicable state and local taxes. For more information visit: www.ispan.org/convention.
We are counting the days until our 41st Annual Convention in Boston! The Board of Directors along with the Scientific Sessions Planning Committee look forward to welcoming those that are able to celebrate this meeting with us. If you aren’t able to attend, we are curious to know the reason.
PSNCB Practice Analysis Survey
Congratulations to Patricia McKenzie, BAS, RN, CPSN for being the lucky winner of the $250 Amazon Gift Card for completing the PSNCB Practice Analysis Survey! This information will act as a resource provided by the ISPAN and PSNCB for all plastic surgical nurses and their diverse multidisciplinary backgrounds. Keep an eye out for the results by the end of the year!
Amanda Bailey, ACNP-BC, CWS, CPSN
Our National Convention has finally arrived. Soon we will all be heading to Boston to be a part of the largest educational offering for The International Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses. The meeting is a wonderful opportunity to expand our knowledge base while meeting new colleagues and reconnecting with the old ones.
Kathleen Mortl, RN, CPSN
I would like for all you to know that we, as a Board, are very approachable via e-mail or phone and in person. Why, am I bringing this up you ask? Due to the fact that plastic surgical nursing is a diverse multidisciplinary field that encompasses various practice settings and educational backgrounds.
Kristi Elliott, RN, FNP-C, CPSN
October is nearly upon us. I have begun to consider October the beginning of the holiday season, kicking off with multiple events promoting breast cancer awareness. Pink is everywhere! One of my favorite events is Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day.
Linda Duffy, RN, CPSN, CPN
On Monday, September 14, the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago was awarded their 4th Magnet recognition award. Lurie Children's stands alone in being the only freestanding pediatric facility to achieve this recognition.
Haley Wood, WHNP, CPSN, CANS
"Advanced Nurse Injector," "Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner," "Injection Specialist," "Master Injector." Hogwash. These are self-labels, and they hit a nerve with me. Can you tell?
Jacqueline Frazee, BSN, CNOR, RNFA, CPSN
This is always a very exciting time of year for Plastic Surgery. For those of you attending the national meeting it is a great time to reconnect with colleagues from across the United States or meet new ones! Your planning committee has worked many hours to bring you a dynamic offering of educational opportunities. I hope you will take advantage of all they have to offer.
Miss Colorado and the Importance of Nursing
By now I'm sure you all have heard or read about it in this American Nurses Association news release and possibly responded via social media– to the comment made by the hosts of ABC's The View regarding Miss Colorado's talent of dressing in a "doctor's uniform" for the Miss America Pageant talent portion. Using the #nursesunite and #NursesShareYourStethoscopes hashtags, the internet has been flooded to show that not only do nurses use stethoscopes, but we are so much more than the perception shared by the co-hosts! This is what happens when nurses come together for a common cause. It's powerful, remarkable, and it can transform how people act and think. Keep it going, keep our voices heard! Thank you Miss Colorado for helping to spread word and the importance of nurses!
As a National Society, the ISPAN realizes that it is not always possible to travel to either our National Convention in the fall or the Aesthetic Symposium in the spring...
