Sharon and I recently attended the ASPS Winter Board Meeting in Chicago. Not sure that "winter" was the appropriate title as it was 82 degrees in Chicago that weekend. We had an early morning meeting with Michael Costelloe, ASPS Executive Vice President; and Danielle Urbina, Director of Meetings and Exhibits. Dr. Malcolm Roth, ASPS President, was unable to attend; however we had a brief discussion with him at the luncheon to quickly recap the morning meeting. The purpose of the morning meeting is to give a brief report to the ASPS executive team regarding ISPAN activities and to discuss strategies for both organizationsí ongoing efforts of collaboration. We reviewed the marketing effort set forth last year regarding the buttons designed for the physicians to wear promoting ISPAN. More

I chose to focus on nursing certification for this issue in honor of National Certified Nurses Day, March 19th. For some of our members, the desire to pursue certification may never present itself. Maybe the apprehension of not feeling like they could prove proficiency in the field, especially in areas of plastic surgery that they donít have experience, or possibly just the fear of studying for a perceived challenging exam prevents some members from considering to enter into the certification process. Greetings, and welcome to a new spring! It is great to see and smell the blooming flowers and to think of those plans for traveling during the summer. However, before you begin to prepare for your much deserved vacations, please remember that the 2012 ISPAN Scientific Sessions Planning Committee has been hard at work to develop the 38th Annual National Convention in October. Teamwork. The secret to the success of any plastic surgical team. Why does this concept elude some, but seem easy to grasp for others?
Every one can recite a definition of "teamwork". The most simplistic, working together to achieve a common goal, can be applied to any situation.

Dear Miss Adventures,
I have been a staff nurse for five years and about a year and a half ago, I transferred to the plastic surgery unit here at my hospital. I've really found my niche! I love caring for patients that are so appreciative of the quality of life surgery we do, and I donít miss my old job on the pediatric floor. I am writing to you for advice because our manager told us at the last staff meeting that our hospital would like to pursue Magnet status.

It's presidential election year again and I wondered if you remembered this piece of history as I had forgotten it and found it fascinating how this came about in our political parties.
What is the origin of the donkey and elephant as the symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties in America?
