In case you have not taken notice, time flies!! Spring has already sprung; summer is almost within reach; and before you know it, the fall will be upon us. Traditionally, in the fall, our nursing subspecialty focuses its lens on continuing education and our annual meeting. With that trajectory in mind, the 2017 Scientific Sessions Planning Committee (SSPC), under the leadership of Ginger Mars, has gone to great lengths this year to revamp our yearly education program. This month I thought I would share just a few highlights of this much-anticipated meeting. More

Editorial: Where’s Mobius? In each newsletter from now until the September 2017 issue, there will be a hidden Mobius strip (the circular symbol as part of the ISPAN logo) for you to find. If you submit all four by September 22nd 2017, you will be entered in a drawing to win a copy of the 4th Edition Core Curriculum. Submissions can be sent via email to ASPSNews Editor, Kathy Mortl (kmortl@mcw.edu). Good luck!

It is my pleasure to introduce and reintroduce Diane Metivier-Hart. Diane is one of the most caring, giving, genuine, lovable nurses I know. Diane has been there for me when I was a new nurse and has helped me in many ways. Please take a few moments and meet my friend and colleague.

The last century has been a period of incredible change for humanity. We’ve gone from simple, rural lives, to the hustle and bustle of cities, automobiles, and high rise buildings. When I graduated from high school in 1987 there was no email. More

I was recently asked to do dermal filler injections to the cheeks of a patient who had undergone a routine dental cleaning the day prior. Because of increasing reports of injection complications and concern about biofilm I did not feel comfortable doing the injections without some research. More

Many “threats to public health and life” stem from the interdependent relationship between our planet and its humans (Billings & Halstead, 2016, p. 78). In other words, our environment has an impact on our health! As nurses, taking care of our planet by paying attention to environmental health issues is an important component of the care we can provide to our patients. More

Anne Bechtold, BBA, RN, CANS Chair, Clinical Practice Committee
Hello Members!
The Clinical Practice Committee (CPC) along with AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) collaborated together on the position statement: Distraction in the OR. AORN has a formal position statement on Distraction in the OR and has agreed to allow ISPAN to reference AORN’s statement. More
