Hopefully, the snow drifts on our New England friends driveways have dissipated by now, and the rumors of spring are really here to stay! May is a month to honor all mothers, graduations, and ISPAN symposiums. And, with meetings in mind, it is time to give some due diligence to the 2015 Scientific Sessions Planning Committee.

I'm a member, he's a member, she's a member, we're a member, wouldn't you like to be a member too? – think Dr Pepper... "I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper..."
"Membership has its privileges." – American Express

Nancy had been a client of Allure Intimate Apparel for several years when she came in quietly asking to speak to the manager to review our store exchange policy. After I explained the policy to her, she matter-of-factly stated, "I was just diagnosed with breast cancer and it looks like I'll be losing all the breast tissue I have. When all is said and done, I have no idea what size I'll need."

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the ACPA (American Cleft Palate Association) conference in California. Plastic surgeons play a key role in the reconstruction of children with clefts. However, teamwork is the key to a successful outcome for these patients and for success of a cleft team. Plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, speech pathologists, audiologists, orthodontics, pediodontists, genetists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses all play an important role.

I was recently approached by an oncology nurse asking me what she needed to do to be able to conduct "Botox parties". She told me that she was looking for a change and that administering Botox seemed like fun and since she had been giving chemo for years she’d be good at injecting. I have lately been researching injectable safety and had to pause for a moment as alarm bells went off in my head thinking about all that could go wrong.

The ISPAN Board of Directors would like to thank the Tennessee/Alabama Chapter for their efforts in organizing this great event.
The ISPAN is also pleased to announce the new Virginia Chapter of the ISPAN! If you are interested in learning more about the Chapter, please contact Chapter President Valentina Lucas.
Active Regional Chapters are a wonderful value for our members and provide an opportunity for education closer to home. If you are interested in organizing a local event or starting a Chapter, please contact the ISPAN National Office.
As a National Society, the ISPAN realizes that it is not always possible to travel to either our National Convention in the fall or the Aesthetic Symposium in the spring. However, two of the guiding principles of the ISPAN are to bring Plastic Surgical Nurses together to achieve the common goals of education as well as networking. Regional Chapters have long been the answer to this as it allows a group of nurses in an area to come together and share ideas and often times hold a small 1-day meeting for continuing education credit –something we are all looking for!
