Marcia Spear, DNP, ACNP-BC, CWS, CPSN, CANS President-Elect
Happy New Year!! Hope everyone is well, prosperous and warm. Your ISPAN President and Board of Directors have been busy planning for a bountiful year of growth and prosperity. We accomplished so much in 2013 and our momentum continues. During our Board of Directors meeting held in San Diego at the conference, time was spent discussing and brainstorming a strategic plan that will take ISPAN into the future and encourage recognition as a leader in plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing. What a fantastic experience in San Diego this year. Our attendees had the benefit of being exposed to some of the top practitioners in Plastic Surgery once again. Despite the numerous positive reviews and feedback from the convention attendees, questions abound needing attention. More

The 2014 SSPC is in full meeting mode, busy planning the 40th anniversary meeting in Chicago, Oct 10-13, 2014. We already have some exciting, thought provoking topics planned. There will be pre-conference workshops, review courses, panels, and didactic sessions. More

Haley Wood, RN, WHNP, CPSN, CANS Director
Do you ever find yourself with an interesting case? Perhaps, a patient who experiences an unusual, or atypical, reaction to a procedure or product? In our patients' best interests, we hope these incidences are few and far between; however, there can be an upside to unique and unusual events. More
The ISPAN Board is excited to announce the formation of the Clinical Practice Committee. The Committee will support the mission of ISPAN to promote practice excellence and optimal patient safety and outcomes in plastic surgical nursing by using evidence-based practice as the foundation of care. Winter weather invites many outdoor activities. Following the first substantial snowfall, sledding often is a spontaneously activity. Many families run to their local hill without thought of the dangers this poses. Taking a little extra time and following a few safety measures can help avoid injuries. Injuries most often occur when sledding takes place in non-designated areas such as parking lots, parks, streets and riverbanks. More
Dear Miss Adventures,
I was at the conference at a best practice presentation about sterile processing. The speaker said we have to follow the "IFUs" for care and handling of equipment and instruments in the operating room. I do not know what an IFU is. Can you explain? How do I know where to find them? What if we don't have any?
Signed,
I Don't Know IFU
