A couple of decades ago, I was working in the operating room and was approached by human resources about assisting the new plastic and reconstructive surgeon who would be starting soon. I said sure! When Roger Mixter, MD arrived, along came Sue Kunz, his nurse. More

Although February seems like the longest month of the year, spring is soon to be upon us. With that thought in mind, a most welcome invitation to engage in outdoor activities begins anew in the spring. Therefore, open-air minded folks including many running enthusiasts and avid walkers will begin to take to the jogging trails and sidewalks for much of the upcoming warm-weathered months. More

The ISPAN had a wonderful convention in New Orleans. Multiple educational opportunities and vendor interactions filled the time to give attendees valuable information to take home to their peers and patients. In order to attend such robust lectures full of content for many days on end, one would have to pay the attendance fee. More

What is the most valuable tool in your practice? This question is proposed to all the featured plastic surgeons in the ASPNews publication with various, and often interesting answers. The iPhone is typically the most common answer given by those interviewed because it allows the surgeon to view patient records, surgery and clinic schedules and if truth be told check the latest sport scores between cases. The holidays are behind us. Now, we look forward to an exciting New Year!
The 10th annual Aesthetic Symposium is scheduled for April 12-14, 2013 in New York City. Not only will the CPSN review course and CPSN Certification Exam be offered, the Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) pilot exam will be debuted as well.
Dear Miss Adventures,
We had such a scary event in the OR yesterday. We just finished a wound debridement of the abdomen and the surgeon was preparing the wound for a negative pressure dressing. He treats the skin edges with an adhesive barrier before applying the dressing and had just wiped the skin with an alcohol based adhesive. At that exact moment, the surgical resident noticed a little bleeding in the wound bed and touched it with the electro-cautery pencil. Instantly there was a "whoosh" and the patient's abdomen was on fire! I mean flames!
The Plastic Surgical Nurses Certification Board (PSNCB) is pleased to announce the launch of the Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) Exam. A pilot of the exam will be given in New York City in conjunction with the 10th Annual ISPAN Aesthetic Symposium. While this is not the official certification it is a wonderful – and FREE - opportunity for those preparing to take the certification in October at the 39th Annual Convention in San Diego.

This morning I am comfortably sitting at my desk at work drinking coffee from my Tervis® tumbler. The cup is clear and decorated with clouds, flowers and dragonflies. There is a verse on the cup:
Live Simply... Love Generously…Care Deeply... Speak Kindly
I love this phrase... it speaks of how we should treat others and in turn how we should want to be treated. All of us should have the opportunity to work in a safe and secure environment.
