1. Los Angeles was first named “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles del Río de Porciuncula” by the first settlers, which translates to “The town of our Lady Queen of the Angels of the Porciuncula River.” Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like “Los Angeles” or “LA,” does it… More

ISPAN Position Statements – Open for Comment

The ISPAN Clinical Practice Committee is developing a number of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, position statements, consensus statements, recommendations and/or protocols utilizing the best and most current research evidence that can be utilized by plastic surgical and aesthetic nurses in all practice settings. They have and will continue to address current issues as they arise and monitor trends in clinical practice that affect the delivery of optimal care. Currently, there are six position statements available online for review. If there are any comments or questions regarding the ISPAN Position Statements, please send a detailed message to admin@ispan.org. In your email, please include the title of the Position Statement, any comments you may have, and the best way to contact you. We appreciate your feedback!

Nominating Committee Chair

A few words before I introduce the new board members. As many of you noticed the consent to serve form changed this year; it is important for potential candidates to have actively participated on the Board or a committee prior to running for a Board of Directors position. Participation on a committee allows a member to learn about the inner workings of the Society as well as to demonstrate a commitment to the Society and willingness to serve in a leadership position. This certainly exceeded our expectations and we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those who have contributed to date. Obviously we need to increase our goal to reach by the close of the convention, we are more than half way there already! Can we reach $10,000.00 by the close of convention? More

First of all, I think you are probably wondering how in the world our membership dues are related to the vendors at the convention. Is the line between the two entities really connected? No, there is not exactly a direct path but rather a circumstance of events that may lead to a correlation. More

The change of seasons is upon us. Just yesterday the sun was up till 9 pm! The evenings were relaxing - not running around chasing my kids to get ready for school, homework done and lunches made. September seemed so far off. And now we're halfway through the month! More

For this edition of the newsletter I had planned to write about indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I've been thinking about this for some time as I am currently supervising the hyperbaric treatments at our wound care facility. Work has been busy and time got away from me every day. I finally decided I would write the article on the plane on the first day of my vacation. As I sat on the plane looking at the scenery below hyperbaric medicine seem very far away. I was not able to get the article started. More

Nurses have a responsibility to serve the society that substantiates their existence (American Nurses Association, 2010). Political policies regulate how nurses provide healthcare, who has access to this healthcare, and how the healthcare is distributed (Jansson, 2011). Knowing this, it is extremely important that we, as nurses, participate in the election of political representatives who will promote. More
